How to Use Copper Vessels Safely & Correctly
Share
Copper has been used in Indian households for centuries — for its health benefits, spiritual significance, and natural beauty. However, it is important to know the right way to use copper vessels to get the best out of them while staying safe.
Copper Vessels Are Made for Water — Only Water
Copper vessels are best suited for storing and drinking plain water. Storing water in a copper vessel overnight and drinking it in the morning is a well-known Ayurvedic practice with many health benefits.
However, please avoid storing the following in copper vessels:
- Milk
- Tea or Coffee
- Fruit Juices
- Any acidic or dairy-based drinks
These substances can react with copper and may cause harm if consumed. Copper is a reactive metal, and anything other than plain water can trigger an unwanted chemical reaction.
Tips for Storing Water in a Copper Vessel
To get the maximum benefit from your copper vessel, follow these simple but important tips:
- Place it on a wooden base — Always keep your copper vessel on a wooden surface or stand. Direct contact with the earth or floor can drain away the natural energy and benefits of the water stored in it.
- Do not put copper vessels in the refrigerator — Copper works best at room temperature. Refrigerating it reduces its natural properties and is not recommended.
- Store water overnight and drink it fresh in the morning for best results.
Copper Plates for Pooja
Copper plates (thalis) are widely used in pooja and are perfectly suitable for this purpose. They carry spiritual significance and are a beautiful addition to any prayer space.
Important Note on Bathing Idols with Copper Vessels
If you use a copper vessel or copper plate to bathe your idols (abhishek), the water used — even if it is considered Charnamrit — should not be consumed. The water may have reacted with the copper surface during the bathing process.
Instead, we recommend pouring that water into a plant pot. It will nourish your plants and nothing goes to waste — a respectful and eco-friendly practice. 🌿
