How to Clean & Maintain Brass and Copper Products

Brass and copper are timeless metals that carry both beauty and spiritual significance. With the right care, they can retain their natural lustre for generations. Here's our guide on how to clean and maintain your brass and copper items the right way.

Cleaning with Pitambri Powder

One of the most effective and traditional ways to restore the shine of brass and copper items is by using Pitambri powder. It is specially formulated for these metals and works wonderfully to bring back their natural glow. We recommend using it primarily for utensils and decorative items.

Cleaning Brass & Copper Idols — The Natural Way

We strongly believe that idols should be treated with reverence, and that means avoiding harsh chemicals. Instead, use natural cleansers that are gentle yet effective:

For Brass Idols:

  • Curd (Dahi) — Apply a small amount and gently rub with a soft cloth.
  • Besan (Chickpea Flour) — Mix with a little water to form a paste and use it to gently scrub the idol. This is one of the best natural cleansers for brass.

For Copper Items:

  • Lime (Nimbu) — Cut a lime and rub it gently over the surface.
  • White Salt (Safed Namak) — Sprinkle salt on the lime or apply directly with a damp cloth for an effective natural polish.

Our Recommendation

Use Pitambri powder for utensils and curd + besan for brass idols. For copper, lime and white salt work best. Avoid chemical-based cleaners on idols as they can damage the surface and are not in keeping with the sanctity of the item.

With regular and mindful care, your brass and copper pieces from PeetalTamba will continue to shine and bless your home for years to come. 🙏
